Here the design professionals at Black Tusk tackled a weekend and vacation getaway that would become a primary home. It would be designed for active lifestyles and entertaining. Other requirements include a functional gear room, pocket office for daily ‘stuff’ (cell phones, computer, mail, glasses, keys...). A servery in the dining area to assist with entertaining. And a layout that allowed easy flow throughout the space.
Black Tusk’s acute design eye chose to go open concept on this one. A generous vaulted great room is separated from the dining area only by a two-sided fireplace. An adjacent away room provides additional family space, with potential for a future master bedroom or office on the main floor. Both the great room and away room are wired for entertainment use. The home would make use of porches on all sides for privacy, working space and interaction with the community. The master suite is upstairs and away for privacy, with ensuite, dressing room and sitting area. Artwork by local artisans for added interest completes this classic Black Tusk organic approach.
Black Tusk decided on a Craftsman-inspired exterior to blend with the architectural guidelines of the community. The home is sound insulated to minimize noise transfer. A steam shower in the guest bath contributes to the guest experience. There are functional entries for the gear room and storage, as well as easy access to the laundry and utility room. The space features terrific flow for living and entertaining. The design allows windows to make best use of natural light.
