For this Project, Black Tusk took on the challenge of a uniquely configured lot; next to a conservation area, beside a stream on Georgian Bay. The home owners are a professional couple and wanted the ability to work from home, meet with clients, but retain privacy in the main living areas. Additional design goals were to:
keep the space intimate for two, but accommodate a visiting family
include extra living space for entertaining and family
accommodate display areas for artwork and artifacts from previous homes
maximize use of natural light and views
Black Tusk designed a bungalow, situated to take advantage of views and privacy, allowing for green space along the stream side of the home and providing a strong connection to the site. The office space is easily accessed from the outdoors. This can become a second bedroom on the main level if desired. Windows and exterior decks are oriented to provide optimum natural daylight.
Details of the creative solution to this custom home build featured adding a garage in front to create a courtyard, small garden and sun deck. Custom built-in cabinetry was used throughout the home to personalize the space and provide storage solutions. The lower level is finished for family visits with large windows to bring in light, in-floor heating for comfort and a cantina kitchen for visiting family and overflow entertaining.
